Drop Factor and Infusion Dose Calculation Discrepancies among Nurses in Southern Nigeria: A Cross-Sectional Study

Nurses must deliver infusions as prescribed since too slow or fast a dose could be deleterious to patients. experience challenges with infusion calculations, making them vulnerable errors. The research team examined drop factor and calculation discrepancies among nurses in southern Nigeria. Five university teaching hospitals were involved this cross-sectional study conducted 2019. To establish the of commonly available macro drip sets, randomly sourced 25 sets from hospitals’ pharmacies. A sample 291 was selected using proportionate random sampling technique. collected data Adult Infusion Dose Calculation Quiz analyzed it at 5% significance level. Twenty (80%) sampled displayed value 20 drops per milliliter (gtt/ml) on their packaging. When measured experimentally, (100%) delivered exactly gtt/ml. Only 36 (12.4%) respondents calculated doses correct Non-attendance administration training updates significantly increased risk error by 38% (p ≤ 0.001). In conclusion, used Nigeria is gtt/ml; prone infusing patients lower than prescribed. Special therapy might remedy concern.
